Announcing Annabelle - Newborn photography session in Hawke's Bay
Although my official job title is ‘Hawke’s Bay photographer’, I feel it’s more accurate to describe myself as a teller of love stories. A day-in-the-life for a news or nature photographer couldn’t be more different than a day being me. My passion is to document love between people in all its forms. Wedding photography is of course a huge part of that but just as important for me is to tell the story of family love, especially at its inception. Recently, brand-new parents Sarah and Tom asked me to come back into their lives (after shooting their wedding a few years ago) and spend a little time at home with them, shooting some candid, doco-style newborn photography with their first child, Annabelle. A huge thanks to them for allowing me to share these images, and also to Sarah, for taking the time in such a time-poor moment in life to describe the experience…
Sarah: “We wanted to capture the once-in-a-lifetime moments with a newborn photoshoot as a way to have beautiful mementos to look back on, as we knew we would get caught up in the whirlwind of being new parents and not clearly remember every moment. We loved the idea that Eva could come to our home so that the photos were not forced or unnatural, as we really wanted the photos to be representative of what was actually happening in that moment in time, which turned out to be a rollercoaster of emotions as all new parents will experience. Not having to leave the house also saved us a lot of stress on the day, as we quickly worked out there is no real routine with a newborn! “
“Having had Eva as our wedding photographer we knew how stress free and fun she made that day, so we couldn’t think of anyone else we would rather have to capture this moment. The process was so relaxed as we could go about our usual routine as she captured the precious moments. We were extremely grateful for the amazing patience Eva showed on the day, helping to calm Annabelle when she just didn’t want to fall asleep and started to become unsettled. As a bonus we picked up some calming techniques from Eva that we are still using!”
“Eva captured so many beautiful, fleeting moments that we will treasure forever. Especially as we now know (a few more sleep deprived days later) Annabelle has already grown and changed so much already. We are so grateful to have these pictures of her so that we can remember as a family every little detail when she is all grown up.“
